Kezlo conducted a comprehensive analysis of the site, taking into account various factors such as the primary view from the road, site access, topography, sun path, existing mature trees, and proximity to the water. They also considered the existing pier, setbacks, including the 100-foot buffer, and the location of the septic system. As the design evolved from initial bubble diagrams, the layout began to take shape with the main level’s front entry, kitchen, powder room, and stairs positioned on the north side, while the gathering space, dining area, and atrium were oriented toward the south, facing the water to maximize views.
As the design further developed, the three-dimensional form of the building began to emerge as a skewed parallelogram, featuring both rounded and pointed corners. Exterior spaces were carefully planned, with the main level boasting a curved wrap-around terrace covered by the second-floor master suite terrace. The third-floor terraces included one on the northwest side, overlooking a pastoral meadow, and another facing the water. An opening in the roof allows sunlight to playfully cast shadows on the meadow terrace, while also providing access for maintenance. The architectural concept embraced both functionality and aesthetics, merging seamlessly with the natural surroundings.
The striking contrast between the white, three-story house glistening in the sun and the natural meadow framed by a weathered split-rail fence is immediately apparent. The recessed front door, framed by an aluminum glass door, offers a clear line of sight through the full-height windows of the gathering space to the water beyond. Inside, the house features intricate details, such as a wall opening from the foyer to the kitchen, cleverly designed for easy access. The standout feature of the home was the spiraling staircase, a true work of art with its white oak treads and stainless-steel railing. This dramatic staircase led to multiple levels, each offering unique views of the atrium and terraces, creating a dynamic connection between the interior and exterior spaces.
