The architectural work for the renovation of the Magnolia Building focused on transforming the existing structure into a modern behavioral health center while preserving its exterior shell. The 31,000-SF building spread over two floors and a partial basement. The comprehensive overhaul of the building’s interior spaces included removing all existing non-load-bearing walls, building systems, and infrastructure to make way for updated layouts and modern facilities. The building envelope remained intact but was enhanced to meet current thermal and moisture protection standards, with improvements to finishes for a fresh, inviting appearance. Minor site modifications around the building addressed existing deficiencies and supported the new functions of the renovated facility.
The renovated Magnolia Building was repurposed as a behavioral health center, with the first floor dedicated to outpatient treatment and the second floor designed for inpatient care. The redesign of the core and shell ensured that the structure could support the specialized needs of these healthcare services while providing a safe and comfortable environment for patients and staff. Enhancements to the building envelope improved energy efficiency and moisture control and contributed to the overall aesthetic, aligning the facility with contemporary healthcare design standards.
A key component of the project was the construction of a new link between the Magnolia Building and the Main Hospital, facilitating direct circulation of healthcare support services between the two facilities. This addition included a new vertical circulation node, featuring an elevator and stairwell to accommodate the varying floor heights between the buildings. The design of this link ensured seamless integration of the new and existing structures, improving accessibility and operational flow while enhancing the overall connectivity of the healthcare campus. The combined renovation efforts resulted in a cohesive, modernized facility that effectively supported behavioral health services and patient care.
